John Tomasetti

John Tomasetti of Shutesbury, MA, a retired elementary school teacher of 34 years, has a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree in Education.  He has been a watercolor artist since 1984.  John, for the most part a self-taught artist, has studied with renowned artists Tony Couch, Tony Van Hasselt, Frank Webb, Scott Prior, John Phelps, and Art Scholz.  John is an artist member of the Academic Artists Association and the Old Deerfield Painting Group.

John Tomasetti’s paintings are all representational, whether a winter snow scene, the Maine coast, or a bouquet of flowers.  His paint application is fluid and abstract, giving the paintings a life that is fun, spirited and carefree.  The watercolor paintings create less a vision of reality than an impression of what one wishes reality were like.  Vivid, colorful, and energetic, his paintings are of birches and bridges, New England barns, and valleys of snow.

John’s paintings have won over 80 awards in local, regional and national exhibitions.  He has been honored with many First Place, Popular Vote, Peoples’ Choice, Gold, Silver and specialized awards.

John has been a regular demonstrator of watercolor painting for the Deerfield Valley Art Association in Massachusetts and the Greater Gardner Artists Association.  He has also demonstrated for the Tobacco Valley Artists Association, Agawam Community Artists and Artisans, Westfield Arts Council, Franklin County Arts Council, Leominster Artists Association, and the Shelburne Falls Senior Center.

Tomasetti has exhibited with the Academic Artists Association, Old Deerfield Painting Group, Historic Deerfield Museum Store, Deerfield, MA, Arts Unlimited Gallery, South Hadley, MA, Suffield Fine Art Festival, Monadnock Area Artists, Keene, NH, Arts of Tolland, Tolland, CT, Deerfield Valley Art Association, Southern Vermont Art Center, Williamsburg Brush and Palette Club, Petersham Arts Council, Westfield Art Council, Art on the Mountain, Hunter Lea Gallery, Ludlow, VT, Craft Haus of Wilmington, VT, Greater Gardner Art Exhibit, Westfest Art Festival, Holyoke League of Arts, and the Leominster Art Association Exhibit.  His works hang in permanent and private collections throughout the United States, England, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands.

He has been a featured artist in the 2009 Rutland winter magazine and in the Arts and Entertainment Section of the Greenfield Recorder.  His painting has been on the cover of the United Way’s Annual Auction catalogue and the Rutland magazine.
