The Members of the painting group work together in the picturesque village of Old Deerfield, in Western Massachusetts.

Weather permitting, the artists set up their easels in the countryside, villages, and hill towns of the area.  Otherwise, they may be found inside the beautiful White Church Community Center, gathered around a still life or working on independent projects.

THE 28th ANNUAL EXHIBIT

One Year under the Pergola

The history of art depicting gardens is as ancient as the painted tombs of the Pharaohs and the mosaics and frescos of Pompeii.  The artist Monet had a special gift for bring together the art of gardening and gardening as art.  At his riverside home in Giverny, the artist created a landscape that would inspire hundreds of paintings.  His lush, carefully designed environment provided wonderful opportunities to capture changing light and the passage of time.  Those images continue to make a profound impact   on painters, art lovers and gardeners.

Few of us have the acreage, resources, and time to create a paradise like Monet’s.  But this year’s stage exhibit is all about finding inspiration from a single (if more modest) garden, belonging to a group member. We hope you enjoy our collective efforts to capture its many moods and facets, intended to represent a single gardening year.
